Charles is a very welcome guest in Brussels, BelgiumNovember 20, 2009 On November 16th, our young United Against Malaria Ambassador, Charles Ssali, continued on his journey to Brussels, Belgium. Charles was invited to be a speaker at the United Against Malaria press conference at the International Press Center at the invitation of HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium, Special Representative of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM). In addition, Charles met with the Belgian Minister for Cooperation, Charles Michel. After the press conference, Corinne De Permentier, Vice President of the Belgian Parliament invited Charles and a delegation led by Professor Awa Marie Coll-Seck (RBM) and Stefan Emblad (Global Fund to fight HIV-TB and Malaria) to visit the Belgian Parliament. After our Breakfast of Champions, we traveled to the United Nations for a special visit with Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro who, as a native of Tanzania, holds the issue of malaria close to her heart having seen numerous cases first-hand. As the highest ranking African at the UN, and a football fan herself, it was the perfect stop for our young Ugandan Ambassador Charles Ssali who graciously asked Dr. Migiro to sign our UAM ball alongside Toronto FC player Dwayne De Rosario to show her support for the United Against Malaria campaign.

The U.S. launch of United Against Malaria started with a Breakfast of Champions at the ESPN Zone in Times Square, New York. It was the perfect way to start the day linking football to malaria with a Speed Kick set up in the corner and a panel on malaria, while we enjoyed eggs and potatoes. There were three panels all hosted by Fox Soccer Channel's Max Bretos. The first featured the UN Special Envoy for Malaria, Ray Chambers, Malaria No More's Peter Chernin, Bishop Thomas Bickerton of the United Methodist Church and ONE's Sheila Nix. The four panelists shared a very hopeful message of how far we have come in the fight against malaria and how easy it is for individuals to take action.

Famous South African football striker and ex captain of the national team, Shaun Bartlett's son writes a welcome note to UAM Ambassador 12 year old Charles Ssali ahead of his visit in early December ahead of the World Cup Draw.
